Located 35 miles from Yellowstone National Park, the ranch creates great opportunities for monster bull to roam out of the park. The terrain is mountainous and reaches elevations of almost 9000+ feet. You will find grassy meadows mixed with pine trees, aspens, and junipers. In 2006 a fire burned a portion of the ranch allowing for new grow of grass and trees. This burn area has proven to hold many elk that are feeding on the new plant growth. There are many streams, lakes, and wallows that can also be used to the advantage of hunters. Rocky outcroppings allow for great visibility when glassing for elk. The ranch has a none obtrusive road system that allows hunters easy access to areas that would normally take several days to hike to. Hunters & guides are typically dropped of at the top each morning and hike back down to camp.
Most hunter will arrive in Bozeman which is located 50 miles from the ranch. The ranch self is located 2.5 miles from Emigrant, Montana. The camp is located an additional 3 miles from the ranch house in the foothills of the mountains.
After a hunter has filled out there are plenty of additional opportunities that can be had. Chico Hot springs is located 3.5 miles from the ranch and features two natural hot pools that can be swam in. In addition to swimming, Chico also offers fine dinning, dancing, and a full bar. Livingston is located 25 miles away and also has many fine and casual dinning restaurants. There are also several sporting goods stores if a hunter should need additional equipment or if luggage was lost. (Please Note: additional transportation fees may apply if a hunter choses to visit an off site location.)
Archery hunters may also enjoy fishing in one of the two lakes located on the ranch. The lakes hold many large cutthroat and rainbow trout. The Yellowstone River is also just seconds away and guided fishing trips can be setup if desired. (Please Note: fishing on the ranch has $65.00/day per person rod fee. Guided trips down the Yellowstone will be with a third party not associated with Nelson Story Archery Hunts). |
